The Maemo-based Nokia N900 mobile phone is expected to receive a new software update as soon as tomorrow, following the release of this solution for users in the UK as soon as today. The new firmware update will land as version 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) and should bring a nice range of enhancements to the already appealing Maemo5 device.The newsoftware solutionis expected to bring forth new games, already available in the Ovi Store, including Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds (level pack), Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and GoGadget. According to a recentposton Nokia Conversations, “Ovi Store will do a full switchover this week Thursday, May 27, so these games and other for-purchase apps will show up then.”The communications capabilities of theMaemo-baseddevice have been improved too, including a series of enhancements to the email feature, which now offers users the possibility to accept or decline an event invitation right from the inbox. The release also brings forth Facebook IM chat and video calling capabilities.“An additional update you will be pleased to hear about is portrait browsing on the Internet is a-go onthe N900. Ovi Maps also gets the update treatment with changes to the UI, improving the experience of finding your way around. And finally, there’s also a change to the menu system UI with the first level now customizable,” the aforementioned blog post continues. One other important fact unveiled in the said post regards the Nokia N900 device and theMeeGo platform. It seems that the OS won't be officially released for N900, even if users might have been expecting for that to happen. The phone is being used in the project for testing purposes, but things won't move forward, it seems, mainly due to the experience that users would receive from the combination between the two. However, Nokia remains committed to supporting the Maemo platform, and the new update is proof of that.
